About CAYR

Â

CAYR is made up of people like you. The original motivation for creating CAYR was in response to the heroic actions of the students of Canterbury High School when their friend and classmate, Amin Buratee who while studying for his A levels was seized by the Immigration Department and thrown in the Dover Removal/Detention Centre. They immediately arranged a 200+ person candle light vigil outside the centre and the further lobbies, demonstrations, letter writing campaigns and petitions led to his release.
As a direct result of this campaign people throughout East Kent became aware of this iniquitous attack on children in our communities. People involved with refugees, activists from the unions, politicians, local and national church leaders, business people, people from literally every walk of life decided that an organised response to this abuse must be developed. On 13 th December 2004 the initial organising meeting took place and CAYR was born.
